02 · Why
Why they are iPhone only
Mostly time and the camera hardware. mood.camera’s developer says it plainly in its FAQ: “I am only developing an iPhone version of mood.camera for the foreseeable future.” An iPhone app is written for a handful of cameras Apple makes. An Android camera app meets hundreds of phones, each whose camera driver reports what it allows: manual shutter and ISO, RAW, a flat frame. The same app can do more on one phone than on another. Our guide to the Camera2 API shows how to check yours.
03 · Pro
Halide and Kino on Android: manual photo and video
Halide is a manual camera with RAW and “Process Zero”, which skips Apple’s computational photography. Kino is a video camera that records a grade as you shoot. On Android these jobs are split across apps:
| App | Installs | Rating | Ads | What you pay | What its listing says |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Open Camera Mark Harman | 126 million | 4.0 (288,000) | Yes | Free | open source; manual exposure, focus and white balance where the phone allows, RAW |
| ProShot Rise Up Games | 718,000 | 4.5 (19,900) | No | $8.99 to buy | a manual camera for photos and video; a free Evaluator app checks your phone first |
| MotionCam Pro MotionCam | 15,000 | 4.6 (1,245) | No | $29.99 to buy | RAW video, RAW photos and log video, with full sensor control |
| Blackmagic Camera Blackmagic Design Inc. | 4.4 million | 4.6 (15,900) | No | Free | free; a digital film camera’s controls for video: frame rate, shutter angle, white balance, ISO |
| mcpro24fps Chantal Pro SIA | 17,000 | 4.6 (4,072) | No | $23.49 to buy; in-app $1.09–10.99 | a manual video camera with log and RAW recording; a free demo checks your phone |
Installs, ratings, the ads flag and in-app prices are Google Play’s, read on 5 November 2026 in the US store; they change. Clack is not affiliated with any app on this page.
ProShot and mcpro24fps each have a free app that checks what your phone supports before you buy. Most Android phones also have a Pro mode in their own camera app. For what RAW gives you, see RAW vs JPEG on Android.
04 · Film
mood.camera and Hipstamatic on Android: film looks
mood.camera bakes a film emulation into each photo as you shoot, with no live preview and no editing; its developer says the effects are too complex to render live. Hipstamatic combines lenses and films before the shot. On Android, the retro camera apps work like Hipstamatic, with many looks to pick from or shuffle: our film camera apps for Android compares them.
Clack is closer to Mood. It has eight films, each modeled on a real film’s published data, and a digicam; the look is made as you shoot, from a single exposure. Where Mood hides the look until after the shot, Clack shows it live in the finder, and it shoots video with the film in every frame. The money works much as Mood’s does: seven days of shooting with everything, then the whole camera, video and one film free; Clack Pro is $24.99 once or $2.99 a month in the US. Clack is new (on Play since 5 November 2026) and tested mostly on the CMF Phone 2 Pro.

An iPhone camera for Android?
Some people searching for an iPhone camera on Android want the iPhone’s own look. No app can give an Android phone that: it comes from Apple’s processing, which runs on the iPhone. Apps on Play named “iPhone camera” put a filter of their own on your phone’s photo.
Questions
