Best film camera apps for Android

Compared from their Play listings and their users’ reviews.

The most installed film camera apps on Android are Huji Cam (46 million installs), OldRoll (41 million), ProCCD (23 million), Dazzil Cam (20 million) and Kapi Cam (18 million). They work alike: a shelf of old camera styles, the look in the finder or added after the shot, free to install with cameras or a membership to buy. Which is best depends on what you want: the most looks, a Y2K digicam, a random disposable, or a film look modeled on real film. Below: each app’s Play listing side by side, what their users praise and complain about, and where Clack, the app this site is about, fits.

Installs, ratings, the ads flag and in-app prices are Google Play’s, read on 5 November 2026 in the US store; they change. Clack is not affiliated with any app on this page.

Dazz Cam, the name many people search, is not among them: it is an iPhone app (Dazz Cam for Android explains, with the apps named like it). Neither are mood.camera, Hipstamatic, Halide or Kino (the iPhone-only camera apps, and Android).

04 · Clack

Where Clack fits

Clack is a film camera for Android that starts from the film, not from a camera’s look. It has eight films (Portrait 400, Minilab 400, Golden 200, Vivid 100, Chroma 64, Cinema 500T, Press 400 and Street 400), each based on a real film and modeled on its published curves, dye layers and grain, and a digicam beside them. The look is live in the finder; the photo is a single exposure, saved from the moment you pressed. Read how to make photos look like film for what that model does, and the films for each one.

Questions

What is the best film camera app for Android?
It depends on what you want from it. For the most looks, OldRoll, ProCCD and Kapi Cam; for a random disposable feel, Huji Cam or NOMO CAM; for film looks modeled on real film with no ads, Clack. The table on this page compares installs, ratings, ads and prices from each app’s Play listing.
Is there a film camera app for Android with no ads?
Play lists no ads in Kapi Cam, NOMO CAM and FIMO, which sell cameras or a membership inside. Clack has no ads either: it is free with Clack Pro inside.
Is there a film camera app without a subscription?
Several sell cameras one by one, or everything for one payment. Clack Pro is $24.99 once in the US, or $2.99 a month if you prefer; after a week of everything, the whole camera, video and one film stay free.
Are these apps real film emulation or filters?
Their listings describe presets and effects (color, grain, light leaks, dust) for the phone’s photo, named after cameras and films. Clack develops the camera’s frame through a model of each film’s published curves, from a flat frame on phones whose camera allows one. How film looks are made is in our guide to making photos look like film.
Is Dazz Cam on Android?
No. Dazz Cam is an iPhone app; the Play apps named like it are other developers’. Our page on Dazz Cam for Android has the details and the alternatives.
